U.P. unemployment rises

UPPER PENINSULA -- The Upper Peninsula's unemployment rose to 12.1 percent in January in a report released Thursday by the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth.
Mackinac County was the hardest hit, rising by four percent. Two counties--Luce and Keweenaw--did show a decline in unemployment. They both decreased by 0.8 percent.
The lowest unemployment in the U.P. is in Marquette County at 9.5 percent. The highest unemployment in the U.P. and Michigan is Mackinac County with 25.3 percent, followed by Baraga County at 22.1 percent.
