MARQUETTE -- You're seeing fuel surcharges when it comes to air travel.  And you're paying more at the pump.

So now what kind of increases are you going to see when it comes to everyday conveniences, like a taxi ride or pizza delivery?

At Checker Cab in Marquette Township, they say it's not going to affect any of their in-town travelers.

"We actually increase prices here and there, mostly on our long-distance, charter-type events," says general manager Jeff LaValley.

The company is looking at alternative fuel vehicles.  Keeping the fleet modern will also save them money on repairs.

"We currently own a Toyota Prius, and that's just a wonderful vehicle; the only real downside is that it's small," LaValley adds.

Some business owners are waiting before making any changes to their fees.

"Every time this kind of stuff comes around, it's always a concern," says Monica Fortino, owner of Lake Superior Pizza and Sub Company.  "Number one, you don't want to go back on quality, and number two, I want to keep my customers happy.  That's my main goal."

Having been in business for 18 years, Fortino's had to raise her prices before.

Right now, the Lake Superior Pizza and Sub Company offers free delivery for orders that are $10 or more.  But if gas prices continue to soar, she may have to charge more for her food and start charging for deliveries.  She's not worried about it yet though.

"When the gas prices go up, our pickups go up and deliveries go down, because I think people are getting organized more, they're going to the store, they're doing their shopping, they're coming to pick up their food and they're on their way home," Fortino says.

And this is really a ripple effect.

Not only does the Lake Superior Pizza and Sub Company need to fill their delivery vehicles with gas, but their suppliers are increasing surcharges for making deliveries to them.
