It's a sport that can be enjoyed both inside and outside, and the USA Hockey-sponsored weekend aims to get more kids into hockey
NEGAUNEE -- This year's hockey weekend was supposed to be outside in Negaunee Township Saturday, but weather conditions moved the event to Sunday afternoon at the Negaunee Ice Arena.
About 12 new skaters between the ages of four and nine learned from registered players and coaches.
The range of ability levels allows everyone to have fun, while learning to appreciate the sport.
"We hold two or three a year, and what this does is give children an introduction to hockey," says Scott Carter, president of the Iron Range Hockey Association. "The players in our association can bring a friend out, try hockey for free."
This was the second year the Iron Range Hockey Association participated in the national event.
