MARQUETTE -- The Marquette County Community Foundation's youth advisory council held an awards ceremony at the Landmark Inn to present grant funds to several area organizations.

The youth advisory is made up of a dozen area volunteers, ages 9 to 18, who choose specific programs based on community need.

Monday, the council presented over $9,000 in grants to various organizations such as the Peter White Public Library, Great Lakes Ski Academy, and Bay Cliff Health Camp.

"What we're trying to do is really integrate these kids into the community through offering their time, talents, and treasures and understanding how community works and how they can positively impact community as well," said Foundation Director, Dr. Carol Touchinski.

Since its creation, the council has given out over $185,000 to charitable organizations.
