Fatal Escanaba crash

ESCANABA -- A major crash involving three vehicles on US-2 in Escanaba Friday morning has become fatal. 

The accident occurred in front of Ashley Furniture store, where officers had to extricate two people from one vehicle involved, using the jaws of life.

One of the people removed from the vehicle had sustained fatal injuries and the other was transported to a local hospital.

The driver of the second vehicle was transported to the hospital for injuries.  The occupant of the third vehicle sustained no injuries.

According to officials a northbound SUV slid along the icy roadway and went into a tailspin before slamming into an oncoming car.

Names are not being released at this time.

Traffic on US-41/US-2/M-35 is back to normal.

The accident scene has been cleared, but the investigation on the crash is continuing.

Traffic is being rerouted in Escanaba due to a major accident that occurred.

Northbound traffic in front of Ashley Furniture will be closed for some time due to a major accident on US-41/US-2/M-35.

Escanaba Public Safety is urging drivers to use an alternative route on either 20th Ave. or through Wells.
