MARQUETTE -- While many have put away their bikes for the season, others still had theirs out, ready to race.
The U.P. Cyclocross State Championships took place at Tourist Park in Marquette over the weekend.
Cyclocross is a cross between road and BMX biking. The course was about three miles long, and the event was timed.
Racers experienced a mix of pavement, dirt, and grass.
The course is intentionally designed so bikers have to dismount their bikes many times throughout the race.
"This weather is perfect actually, believe it or not. The sport originated in Belgium where they like nasty weather because it makes the suffering all that much greater, and the fans and the people love it and it's just part of the tradition--it's part of what makes the sport what it is," said race volunteer, Weston Pernsteiner.
This was the final race of the 2010 UPcross season.
