Sprucing up the Marquette roundabout
MARQUETTE -- Now that the roundabout is complete, it's time to spruce it up, and that's just what the Marquette Beautification and Restoration Committee was doing Wednesday morning.
While the city arborist is responsible for the bushes in the very center of the roundabout, the beautification committee is taking care of the perimeter. This morning they added soil amendments from Snyder Drug and peet moss from Meisters to prepare the landscape for the winter months.
The committee has also irrigated the roundabout and surrounding grassy areas with a sprinkler system costing about $11,000.
"We are part of providing a fabulous entryway to the city of Marquette that's sort of a symbol of how people feel when they go by. We just wanted it to be fabulous, and so we're going to work very hard," said committee Vice President Barb Kelly.
