MARQUETTE -- A candidate running for Secretary of State this November was in Marquette Thursday evening.
Jocelyn Benson spent the evening at the Marquette County Democratic Party Headquarters.
She says if elected, she'll be accessible to everyone and wants to protect the security of elections saying it's the *voters* who choose elected officials, not special interest groups or large organizations.
Benson is a democrat but says she's not bringing her politics into office.
"I have actually pledged to take an oath of non-partisanship and operate the Secretary of State's office from a non-partisan and neutral vantage point. I believe the Secretary of State should act like a judge in overseeing elections and in overseeing the licensing process and all the rest and not take sides in any disputes," Benson proclaimed.
Benson has actually written a book on the office having met with the Secretary of State in 36 states.
