With a cool, sunny start to the day, it was a perfect morning to go for a run and help the community at the same time.

The Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Marquette and Alger County held their 28th Annual Fun Run Saturday morning in Negaunee.

The courses, a 2-mile and a 10k, started in Old Town Negaunee and wound through the Heritage Trail.  Runners competed in 12 different age groups, with all of the registration fees going to the local Big Brothers/Big Sisters chapter.

More than 200 people ran the race as a part of Negaunee's Pioneer Days.

"This Pioneer Week brings a lot of classmates, alumni to Negaunee High School home for the week, and we see many of them ponying up here on Saturday morning before the parade and joining us for the race.  It's good to see old friends.  I'm sure they have a great time here on the course," said Chapter Board Trustee, Don Mourand.

The Marquette and Alger County Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization club is also celebrating its 40th anniversary.

They hoped to take in more than $1,500 towards their cause.
