The Tea Party attracted more than just hard line conservatives
ESCANABA -- The Tea Party Movement in Escanaba on Friday attracted more than just hard line conservatives. Independent voters like Sheri Cavill came to get a firsthand look at what the Tea Party is all about.
"I'm really amazed at the turnout; it's nice to see so many people down here who want to be involved and are concerned about where our future lies,” said Cavill. “I'm pretty undecided yet and that's a lot of the reason why I'm here today to get some more information and make a better informed decision."
Cavill supported Congressman Stupak in past elections, but is unhappy with health care reform and the lack of jobs in the U.P.; a frustration she shares with many of the Tea Party members.
“These elected officials need to be reminded that we hired them and that we can fire them,” said Tea Party speaker Amy Kremer.
People celebrated at today's rally which wasn't what Cavill expected.
"We've heard so much about the Tea Party Express and them being so rebellious and troublemakers, and they're a nice group of people,” Cavill said. “They educate while being entertaining at the same time, and I'm glad I saw that for myself."
However, this independent voter still considers herself undecided.
"It was fun, it was really entertaining with a lot of energy behind the show that they gave,” she said. “But I don't feel like it's really changed any of my beliefs or where I stand.”
The Tea Party Movement continues to gain momentum as it travels through the U.P. However, the Tea Party is going to have to sway the opinions of independent voters like Sheri Cavill if it wants to make an impact this November.
