MARQUETTE -- On Good Friday, Christians commemorate the Passion, or the death of Christ, and Friday in Marquette a unique service did just that.
Messiah Lutheran Church hosted a three hour Ecumenical service. It's the first time Lutheran, Presbyterian, Methodist, and Episcopal churches were represented in one service.
Each pastor read from the book of Luke about the death of Christ.
Messiah Lutheran Church Pastor David VanKley says Good Friday services are unique in that care is taken to cover material deeply.
"It's sort of like taking a diamond and kinda holding it up to the light. As you turn it, you see different things, and so with Good Friday, it's worthwhile to spend some time thinking about all the different things Jesus said when he was on the cross," said David VanKley, Messiah Lutheran Church.
Another service will be held tonight at St. Marks where they will read the book of John.
Messiah has been holding the Good Friday service for more than 50 years.
