UPPER PENINSULA -- There was talk of changing the fees for State Park motor vehicle permits, but no official legislation has been passed to do so.

For now the rules of motor vehicle permits remains unchanged in 2010.

These permits give vehicle occupants access to 98 State Parks throughout 2010, excluding three Mackinac Island Historic State Parks.

Officials say the fees from the permits return directly to the park system.  Permits provide visitors with a wide variety of outdoor activities.

"You're never more than an hour-and-a-half from our state park facilities.  You have camping, boating, fishing, hiking trails in addition to protecting a variety of natural resources and scenic sites, and a lot of great opportunities," said Rich Hill, Western U.P. Recreation Supervisor, DNRE.

Residents pay $24 for a year pass or $6 for a daily pass.

Non-residents can purchase a year pass for $29 or a daily pass for $8.
