LAKE GOGEBIC -- An Illinois snowmobiler is hospitalized after an accident overnight Thursday on Lake Gogebic.

According to the State Police, the crash happened near the Hoop and Holler bar, shortly before 1 a.m. in the morning central time.

The unidentified driver, traveling with a large party of sledders, apparently hit a picnic table and was thrown from the snowmobile.  He has been transferred to a hospital in Duluth for treatment.

At this time, the extent of his injuries and current condition has not been released.

While the incident remains under investigation, speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.
