MARQUETTE -- If your garden is underneath piles of snow this winter, you can still put your green thumb to good use.

Hiawatha National Forest is looking for volunteers interested in seed cleaning, tray preparation and planting.

It's all a part of their effort to reintroduce native plants to five acres of Grand Island.

"Many of our volunteers that are here today that are stripping seeds have been helping me for a number of years, and as you will see, it's a pretty close knit group and a family atmosphere," said Deb LeBlanc, Plant Ecologist.

Volunteer work days run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and include pot luck lunches.
