MARQUETTE -- Members of the Marquette Sentinels Squirt AA hockey team learned an important lesson Sunday afternoon--giving back to those in need.

Fifteen players took to the streets of northeast Marquette to collect cans for the TV6 Canathon.

This is the first time the team has ever taken part in the collection effort, and members were excited to be able to do some community service.

Coaches were hoping area residents would see that the kids do more than just play hockey.

"I think that they play for a great organization, the Marquette Junior Hockey, and it's an opportunity for them to get out and show the community  that the kids who participate in this organization are leaders and are interested in giving something back," said coach Dirk DenBeste.

The team plans to make this outing an annual tradition during the TV6 Canathon.
