Giving a business owner time off her feet.

NEGAUNEE -- Treating a business neighbor to some time off her feet.  That's how Kelli Crookham, the owner of Grand Effex Hair Salon in Negaunee, decided to "Pay It Forward."

She chose to do something kind for Mary Beth Kurtz, who owns the Midtown Bakery, next door.

Kelli gave Mary Beth a 90-minute pedicure certificate, carrying on the kindness she received last week, from her friend Lisa, who delivered scones to the salon.

"I've heard about pay it forward, but I've never had anybody do something for me," said Kurtz. "So, it was a wonderful surprise."

Kelli says Mary Beth deserves pampering because she's always doing nice things for people, including the stylists at the salon.

"I know that's something she wouldn't purchase or buy for herself," said Crookham.  "I figured a pedicure would be something nice and different."

Between making sweet treats and cooking up lunches, Mary Beth spends a lot of time on her feet.

"Yesterday it was 14 hours; day before that it was 12," said Kurtz.  "Being a small business owner, as Kelli can tell you; some days it seems like it never ends.  But it can be a long day."

It didn't take long for Mary Beth to decide how she'll "Pay It Forward."  She plans to support the fight against breast cancer.  Check back to find out what she has up her sleeve.
