Community meets and mingles with players.
HOUGHTON -- The Michigan Tech Blue Line Club hosted a start of the season picnic for the Tech hockey team on Tuesday night.
About 80 people, including most of the team, attended the event which was held at Kestner Waterfront Park in Houghton.
Members of the club and community paid five dollars for a meal and a chance to meet new players and mingle with those returning.
After the food and friendly conversation, some of the players picked up a football to pass around with local kids.
“The players absolutely love the interaction with the people in the community, getting to know them and their families,” said Head Coach Jamie Russell. “The home-cooked meal is a big hit with our players because they're all away from home.”
The Blue Line Club hosts numerous events and fund-raisers throughout the hockey season.
The team's first home game is October 3 against Ryerson.
