IRONWOOD -- The Gogebic Range Players have been taking to the stage for a quarter of a century, entertaining audiences with everything from vaudeville to major Broadway musicals.  This year, they're applying their talents in a show about the French Revolution.

The French Revolution may not sound like an entertaining subject, but the 'Scarlet Pimpernel' uses humor and music to captivate audiences.  It's the story of the League of the Scarlet Pimpernel, whose members attempt to save French citizens from the revolutionary government.

"Me and my friends decide to go to the French Revolution to help these innocent people who are getting butchered and guillotined," explained Kevin Maki, who plays the title character.

Those involved with the show believe that audiences will be pleasantly surprised by the production.

"It sounds like it has this whole morbid plot, but it's really not that at all," said Chris Kelly, the show's director.  "It's really hilarious."

Part of the hilarity is due to the fact that the Pimpernel and his associates don the identities of effeminate fops in order to avoid government suspicion.

Though the cast is currently still learning their lines and getting their dance steps down, they are confident that they'll be prepared to wow audiences on opening night.

Anyone interested in seeing history come to life can check out the show at the historic Ironwood Theater, March 26-28 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 29 at 2:00 p.m.
