Makes driving on ice easier
ISHPEMING -- With colder temperatures and snowfall back in the U.P., driving through wintry weather is far from over.
But for just $15 a tire, your car can get 35 to 200 percent better traction on the icy roadways.
Willey's Tire Shop in Ishpeming is one of the last shops to still offer tire siping, a process that cuts fine grooves across the face of the tire, new or used.
This is a convenient alternative to putting on winter tires.
"The winter tire is a little more expensive, but the biggest thing is you have to take them off in the spring time so they don't wear faster. A winter tire is made of a different rubber compound that will wear faster than an all season. And then you have to pay to put them back on again in the fall," said Tire Shop Manager, Steve Beauchamp.
Manufacturers don't actually sell all season tires already siped due to costs, but it's a good idea for motorists to consider as they're promised a safer ride and it actually helps prolong the life of your tires.
