Driver had to avoid stopped cars
GLADSTONE, MICHIGAN -- At approximately 12:30 p.m. Thursday, troopers from the Gladstone State Police Post responded to a fully loaded logging truck that had went into the ditch one half mile south of Lake Shore Dr. on US-41.
Another vehicle, driven by a man from Gladstone, which was hauling insulation, had lost two rolls in the highway. Traffic in the lanes had stopped to allow the driver to pick up the insulation.
Due to the limited sight distance around the curve, the semi truck, driven by Jeffrey Turpeinen of Pelkie, did not have enough time to stop. In order to avoid striking the vehicles that were stopped, Turpeinen drove the semi into the ditch.
Turpeinen was not injured during the accident.
The driver of the truck that lost the insulation was cited for an unsecured load.
