ESCANABA -- OSF Saint Francis Hospital in Escanaba has received high honors for achieving perfect patient care within the OSF health care system.

There are seven hospitals in the OSF system, and the Escanaba facility came out on top.

The ratings are based on four components--dealing with congestive heart failure, heart attack, pneumonia and surgical care.  Officials say if one indicator is missed in caring for a patient, the case is considered a failure.

OSF St. Francis was able to reach greater than 90 percent perfect patient care, which officials say is higher than national standards.

"In the OSF health care system, we set a standard that is higher than national goals of providing perfect care.  What we'd like to do is provide perfect care to every patient every time, but to do that...greater than 90 percent of the time exceeds national goals," said Quality Manager Deb Kratz.

OSF treats nearly 30,000 patients each year.
