MARQUETTE -- After hours of hard work, 12 teams from all over the U.P. put their robots to the test at the First Regional LEGO League Robotics Tournament.

The teams had four opportunities to show off what their robots could do by completing as many missions as possible in 150 seconds.

Teamwork, robot design, and presentation were also considered in the final score.

Not only do the team members learn about science, but also how to work together.

"It broadens their horizons, it teaches them cooperation, as Dean Kamen would say--you know working in a team, getting along with everyone--and it really, challenges them," said tournament referee Ashley Roffe.

The teams with the top cumulative scores will move on to the state competition in Flint on December 13.
