ISHPEMING -- Ishpeming held its annual Christmas parade, but this year, Santa Claus wasn't the only star.

Hundreds of people crowded downtown Ishpeming to see the Hematites make their way down the parade route on-board fire trucks.

Saturday, the football Hematites beat Detroit Loyola in their Division 7 state championship game.

Following the parade, Mayor Pat Scanlon huddled with the football players. He told the crowd the Hematites would light the Christmas tree this year, in honor of their achievement despite a challenging year.

The Christmas parade was originally slated for Friday, November 23,  but was postponed because of inclement weather.
