CALUMET -- Students from the Public Schools of Calumet, Laurium and Keweenaw are bringing in cans for the TV6 Canathon.

Once the school bus drops the students off, they take their cans and place them on the designated tables.

On Wednesday over 50 students brought in cans. This year the school came up with their own theme -- " Yes we canathon. Can you?"

There's also a wall of fame with a picture of every student who brings in a can.

"I do think they understand about caring about others and they also are gaining the understanding of how good it feels inside intrinsically when you're doing good for others in the community," said Leslie Sotala, AmeriCorps member.

The third grade classes are keeping a weekly count of the amount of cans they're bringing in and they're also competing to see which class can bring in the most cans.
