CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP -- Across the U.P. it was pickup day Sunday for "Operation Christmas Child."

Over the course of the year, people have been donating shoeboxes full of toys and toiletries.  Missionaries with Operation Christmas Child will take them to parts of the U.S. and many Third World countries in an effort to spread the word of God.

Silver Creek Church in Harvey has been donating for 14 years.  This year, the church collected 1,305 shoeboxes from Marquette County, the most ever for Silver Creek.

"These children never received any type of Christmas presents like this before.  They receive one box in their lifetime.  One hundred million will be given out since the inception of this ministry in 1996, and not one child has received a second box," said Marquette County coordinator, Katherine Olson.

FedEx offers free trucks to help transport the donations, and FedEx employees volunteer to do the driving.
