HOUGHTON -- A healing event for anyone who has lost a loved one or friend to suicide will be held this Saturday at the City Center in Houghton.

Around one million people die by suicide each year worldwide, meaning that every 40 seconds, a life is lost.

During the Survivors of Suicide event, there will be a conference as well as a candle lighting ceremony.

"Suicide has a stigma attached to it as well as mental health, and it's difficult for survivors to share what they're going through," said Kevin Weir of Dial Help. "It is a little bit different type of loss than more traditional death."

The event is free and starts at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Dial Help and Copper Country Mental Health are putting on the event.
