MARQUETTE -- A career fair in Marquette on Friday that aimed to help unemployed veterans get a job received a good turnout.

The fair was the last of three stops in a series of job and career fairs across the state. Governor Rick Snyder has declared November in Michigan to be Hire a Veteran Month.

The Michigan Veteran Services Division hosted the career fair to help military veterans get a leg up when applying for jobs. Veterans practiced mock interviews, resume building, and some even learned how to start a small business.

A free bus service brought in veterans from as far as Iron Mountain.

"The community came together and fully supported this," said Allen Nash of Veteran Services. "The veterans are coming in. We've taken a survey of the ones that have exited so far and they're quite happy with the advice they've been given."

The career fair series will become an annual event across Michigan in the week before Veterans Day
