With 100 percent of precincts now reporting, Republican incumbent Dan Benishek has defeated Democratic challenger Gary McDowell by 2,297 votes. Benishek has 48 percent of the votes, with McDowell receiving 47 percent.

UPDATED: 4:30 a.m. Wednesday

With 99 percent of precincts reporting, Dan Benishek leads Gary McDowell by about 1,800 votes; 521 of 528 precincts have released their results.

The race is very close in Michigan's First Congressional District. As of 3:45 a.m. Wednesday, incumbent Republican Dan Benishek leads Democratic challenger Gary McDowell by 1,085 votes with 509 of 528 precincts reporting (96 percent).

Benishek, a Crystal Falls resident, who was first elected to the office in 2010, had 154,925 votes compared to 153,840 for McDowell, who lives in Rudyard.
