Kivela defeats Hubbard to become new representative for the 109th District

Rep. Steve Lindberg couldn't run for reelection due to term limits

Democrat John Kivela has defeated Republican Jack Hubbard in the race for the 109th Michigan State House District.

With 59 of 59 precincts reporting, Kivela received 58.4 percent compared to 41.6 percent for Hubbard.

Kivela is the outgoing mayor of the City of Marquette. Hubbard is currently the supervisor of Burt Township.

The 109th District encompasses all of Alger, Luce, and Schoolcraft counties and part of Marquette County. The seat is currently held by Democrat Steve Lindberg, but he could not run for reelection due to term limits.
