MARQUETTE -- Students at Father Marquette Elementary School got a jump on learning about the voting process.

The school participated in an election Monday, but the kindergarten through fourth graders weren't making any political choices.  Instead, the students were voting on their favorite book.

There were two nominations on the ballot:  books entitled Where the Wild Things Are and The First Dog.

"At an early age, children need to be able to make decisions and choose things, and they can't always do what their friends want, and they need to be anonymous at what they choose to do, so we want them to have that opportunity, also," said teacher, Sue Sharrett.

The election was organized by teachers on the school's literacy committee.
