You can still vote even if you don't bring your voter ID card

ESCANABA -- Election Day is November 6, and it's important to get out and vote. Whether you're a first-time voter or a seasoned balloter, there are a few things to remember before you head out to the precincts.

Every vote counts. But before you can vote, you'll need to bring your federal, state, or military ID. If you don't have it, there's an affidavit you'll have to sign on Election Day that states you're a Michigan resident.

But what if you're visiting Michigan and want to vote? You can pick up an absentee ballot from your local clerk's office.

Florida resident, Rafael Nicdao, got his ballot ten days before he left for Michigan.

“I am so excited in this election year,” explains Nicdao. “I would like to support one of the candidates who, I know, will have some favorable effects on our economy."

So how can you confirm if you are registered? If you want to find out if you're registered to vote, it's really quite simple. All you have to do is log onto the Michigan Secretary of State website.  Enter your name, birth date, and zip code. You enter your information, press search, and it tells you if you're registered. Another aspect of that website is the ability to simply scan a code to see if you're registered.

“There's just a multiple array of different issues that come up on Election Day,” explains Escanaba City Clerk, Robert Richards. “And we just handle them all one at a time. We encourage everyone to come out and just have an enjoyable Election Day experience."

Richards encourages everyone to get out and vote. You can make a difference.
