MARQUETTE -- Students at Sandy Knoll Elementary in Marquette are learning about nutrition with a program called Veggie U. The students in Mrs. Adams fourth grade class have been working on growing a garden and trying new healthy foods for the past five weeks. Friday, they got to taste some of the fruits of their labor and play some games as well.
"These kids are just excited with the whole concept of new fruits and new vegetables, and they're so intelligent on what is healthy and what they should choose and, again, carrying that message home is really a plus on top of it," said Carol Holman, Director of Food and Nutrition.
"I wasn't so sure about the different colors of carrots, but they were actually really pretty good," said Olivia Neubeck from Mrs. Adams 4th grade class.
Veggie U is a non-profit organization based out of Ohio. With the success of the program, they intend to do it again at Sandy Knoll next year.
