GARDEN -- The Heritage Sustainable Energy's Garden Wind Farm welcomed guests Tuesday, and they were all from Delta County high schools. It's all a part of Michigan Works! Jobs for Graduates program, which is, in part, an effort to keep young people in the Upper Peninsula.

Technicians at the wind farm say wind energy is the way of the future and a way to keep kids in the U.P.

"To have an industry that actually will be an industry that's renewable and expanding across the Upper Peninsula, so this will give a few jobs for local students so they don't have to move away from the Upper Peninsula if they choose to stay in the area," said site manager Bob Powell.

The students were able to go inside one of the 14 wind turbines and see what technicians and managers do every day.

"It's a growing industry, and it's really interesting how people will do this sort of thing. You wouldn't expect for someone to come to school and say, this is what I want to do when I grow up," said high school student, Joely Fisher.

The Garden Wind Farm says they often look to hire their employees from Michigan.
