Austin Angeloff takes action against his incurable disease
KINGSFORD -- A five-year-old boy has decided to take action against his incurable neuromuscular disorder. Austin Angeloff was diagnosed with Mitochondrial Disease.
Mitochondria are responsible for creating more than 90 percent of the energy needed by the body to sustain life and support growth. When they fail, less and less energy is generated within the cell, resulting in cell injury and even cell death.
When the little boy found out there was no cure, he told his mom he wanted to raise money to help find one and began selling ribbons.
"It makes me happy when somebody comes up and gets a ribbon," said Austin. "I am just so proud of myself."
Austin has sold over 600 ribbons and raised over $2,000. He will continue fundraising until the end of the year and donate everything to the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation.
If you would like to help, donations can be made to First National Bank of Iron Mountain to the Austin Angeloff Benefit Fund.
