IRON MOUNTAIN -- A Christmas wish list tree has been put up at the Northern Lights YMCA in Iron Mountain this past weekend.
Before the troops of the 1432 National Guard unit left for duty in Afghanistan, they were asked: if they could get their kids anything, what would it be? The tree was then filled with decorations of the over 100 wished gifts. The community is asked to come out, take an ornament, and make one of the wishes come true.
"We want to let our soldiers know that even though they're in Afghanistan, we're here and we're going to try to help their families and make sure that their families do have a nice Christmas this year. This is one of the ways that we're going to do that," said UPCAP coordinator, Denise Formolo.
If you decide to purchase a gift, you must bring it back and place it under the tree with the tag attached. Gifts will be collected up until November 5.
