HOUGHTON -- A Michigan Tech student is taking home the United States Air Force Cadet Research Award.

Jacob LaSarge is studying mechanical engineering, and he's also an Air Force Cadet at Tech.  LaSarge is the project manager of the Oculus ASR Nano Satellite which will help the Air Force recognize different objects in space.

LaSarge won the award for his exceptional leadership skills.  The award is given out annually to one cadet in the country.

'It's a great honor.  It reflects great credit upon the university, our team, as well as the Air Force.  I've certainly learned a lot through this project as well as my peers," said LaSarge.

LaSarge graduates next spring, and he says his next step is a masters degree from the Air Force Institute of Technology.
