MARQUETTE -- Verizon Wireless in Marquette celebrated the arrival of the 4G network on Thursday afternoon.

Verizon officials talked about the advantages of the 4G network, which is ten times faster than 3G. Verizon also donated more than $40,000 to local domestic violence shelters.

Marquette is the 400th market to receive the 4G network, expanding Verizon's coverage area.

"We give back into the community in which we serve," said Verizon Regional President T.J. Fox. "We have employees throughout the U.P. here in Michigan and we want to make sure that we're giving back into the community and Hopeline is a great way to do that so we can all do this together and with the donations we give to these organizations."

Northern Michigan University also received a gift of 10 new Samsung tablets for students to use in classrooms.

Some local customers also won prizes including a new Droid RAZR smart phone.
