ISHPEMING TOWNSHIP -- Westwood High School is holding their annual fundraiser for the music department. They call it Keep the Music Alive. This year they'll have a rock concert at the high school that will raise funds for the NICE Music Makers, a music booster club. Local bands Shotgun Kelli, GLC, and Drew and the Geezers will be performing.

"Music is extremely important for a well-rounded education and also for the development of math functions of the brain. Studies have shown that it's very helpful, especially for younger students," said Westwood Band Director Gordon Erickson. "People should come and check this out to support a great cause, but also to have a good time."

Last year the event raised about $2,000. The money is used purchase new equipment, costumes, and help pay transportation costs. The concert will be Saturday at the Westwood High School auditorium. The show gets underway at 6 p.m. Tickets for the show are just $10.
