MARQUETTE -- This past weekend restaurants in Marquette held an annual fundraiser for community groups in the area.

The Eastside Independent Restaurant Association held its third annual fundraiser on Saturday at the Marquette Commons. A total of 18 restaurants participated by offering food, and wine and beer vendors also showcased their products.

This year's recipients of the money are the Voices for Youth organization, the Marquette Senior High School Music Department and the Noquemanon Trail Network.

"It's just one of these things that through our meetings, we see where the need is and how we're approached, and then we make the decision as to who's going to be the recipients of the fundraiser," said Michele Butler, owner of Vango's.

The association hopes to raise $3,000 for the groups. Soon, the selection process of next year's groups will begin.
