ISHPEMING -- With the winter season not too far away, it's important to keep kids warm from the cold weather.

Hundreds of participants worked toward that goal on Saturday at the third annual Keep Kids Warm clothing drive in Ishpeming. Despite the rain, children and adults went door-to-door distributing 6,500 collection bags to the community.

They hope to receive clothing donations by next week.

"We are so pleased and honored that so many people are willing to get involved with this project," said Richard Derby of Keep Kids Warm. "This huge number of students that are coming out to help and scouting units and now with other churches being involved...it's just a wonderful display of community support and service."

They encourage the community to look for old clothes out of their closet or attic or to buy something new to donate.
