CHATHAM -- 4-H members got a hands on science lesson Wednesday afternoon. It was the fifth annual 4-H Youth Science Challenge. This year, kids broke into teams and made their own Ecobot. The tiny robots were designed to help clean up an environmental spill. They were made out of a toothbrush head and parts from old cell phones.

"This is to get them interested in science. We have a couple people from our science Olympiad here, and a lot of kids hopefully will generate some interest in science by having them participate in this experiment," said Barbara Trombley, 4-H volunteer leader.

With the Ecobot challenge, organizers say the kids get to learn engineering and mathematics skills. They are also planning an event later in the month that will combine robotics and recycling.
