NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP -- The Michigan State Police Post in Negaunee was full of emotion Tuesday afternoon as one of their troopers retired after 24 years.
Family, friends, and coworkers of Phillip Stanton all got together for a party, celebrating the state trooper's final day on the job.
Before making his way to Negaunee in 1988 to work with the K-9 unit, Stanton worked throughout the state at several state police posts.
At Tuesday's gathering, fellow troopers shared stories about their time with Stanton.
"I'm very honored that this many people would show up and say the things they did. I must have had them fooled all along. Some good people; I'm going to miss the people. I'm going to miss the job, other than the paperwork...that was never fun. It's the people you miss the most," said Stanton.
In his retirement, Stanton says he plans to stay busy with lots of mountain biking.
