CALUMET -- Across the state Saturday, the Michigan State Police offered residents the option to safely dispose their unwanted or expired prescription drugs.

The Michigan State Police Calumet Post saw a steady stream of people discarding their pills. Authorities say the 'No Questions Asked' pill collection is an excellent way to prevent drug abuse.

"Particularly in this area, particularly across the whole U.P., prescription drug abuse is higher than most other drug abuses combined, so it gets these pills out of the house, makes them less available to the people who want to abuse them," said Sgt. Robert Carter.

After Saturday, the pills will be given to the drug enforcement administration to be incinerated.
