MARQUETTE -- Full service gas stations aren't a common sight these days, but some athlete volunteers helped fill up some gas tanks Saturday.

Basketball players from Marquette Senior High School offered their services as a fundraiser at Freedom gas station. Athletes from the men's and women's teams pumped gas for anyone who came through from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors didn't even need to get out of their car to pay. The gas station even lowered their prices by a few cents to encourage more customers. It sold for $3.79 per gallon.

The station donated five cents for every gallon sold to the school's basketball program. This is the first time the teams have worked with a gas station as a fundraiser.

"So far, I would say this is a huge success," said Basketball Coach Brad Nelson.

"And we'll look back on it, we'll get with the other coaches and see what we can do to make it better."

The basketball teams will again provide full service at the Freedom gas station on Oct. 13.
