MARQUETTE -- Friday a forum at the Peter White Public Library updated the public on the impact of mining in the Lake Superior basin. This was the second of three forums that are free and open to the public.

Presentations from environmental scientists focused on the history and future of mining and its effect on the local ecology. The forums are joint effort between the U.S. and Canada.

"The purpose of the lake superior forums is to make sure that we take care of lake superior, which is the cleanest of the great lakes but certainly has serious problems despite that and we search solutions to take care of lake superior for that future," said John Jackson of the Lake Superior Forum.

The final non-ferrous mining forum is scheduled for next March in Minnesota. More information on the forums is available by clicking here.
