MARQUETTE -- The new Marq-Tran transfer station in downtown Marquette is officially open.

Wednesday morning, community leaders and transportation officials joined current and former board members of the Marquette County Transit Authority for a ribbon cutting ceremony in front of the new building that is located on the corner of Third and Spring Streets.

The land and the building come with a price tag of $1.2 million. It has been under construction for about a year, according to Delynn Klein, Marq-Tran Executive Director.

"All our passengers will be able to use restrooms, stay out of the elements with extreme air or heat," said Klein. "This is great, we're so excited that we could bring this building to the community."

In the future, a ticket office will be staffed in the building. To view Marq-Tran's bus schedule, go to their web site: www.marq-tran.com.
