BIG BAY -- Bay Cliff Health Camp in Big Bay offers help to many adults and children experiencing medical issues, and now, they're helping one of their own.

This week, volunteers are baking more than 2,000 pasties and taking orders from the community. The funds will benefit a seasonal maintenance employee at the camp, Monte Heacox, of Grand Marais.

Heacox is currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiation for an aggressive cancer.

"Being a seasonal employee, like many seasonal and part-time employees, Monte doesn't have health insurance," said Camp Director Tim Bennett. "He's really faced with some large medical bills, and this is our way of trying to reach out and help, and we're just very grateful the community is responding."

To make an order, call the camp's Marquette office at (906) 345-9314. The pasties will be distributed between 4 and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
