MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP -- The new iPhone 5 was released in stores around the world on Friday.
At 8 a.m. local time, retailers opened their doors to customers wanting the latest and greatest Apple mobile device. The iPhone 5 appeared to be in strong demand, selling out of initial inventory in the first hour after pre-orders were accepted.
Lines formed in Marquette Township over night at both the AT&T and Verizon stores.
"I got here at the AT&T store about 3:20 a.m. or so, first in line to get a new iPhone 5 today," said Alazar Chromen. "And I've got about 15 or 18 people behind me in line and we're all excited to get the new phone."
"We've been here since 6:30 a.m.," said Verizon customer Kahlea Berry. "I've had a 4S for a while and excited to upgrade."
Analysts estimate that Apple will ship 10 million new iPhones across the world by the end of the month.
