NEGAUNEE -- Sunday morning, rowers of all ages competed in the seventh annual Iron Oars Regatta in Negaunee.
The Regatta on Teal Lake is put on by the Upper Peninsula Community Rowing Club.
Competing Sunday was Northern Michigan University, Michigan Tech, and both the youth and adult groups of the rowing club. Thanks to the help of sponsors, no entry fee was required.
The day was just meant to bring communities together for the love of the sport.
"Believe it or not, it's fun to row, but rowing in a regatta, even if you're just competing against the clock, it is so exciting, and you really give it a hundred percent on the day of the regatta," said Gail Brayden, a member of the Upper Peninsula Community Rowing Club.
Michigan Tech went on to win the grand prize, a trophy filled with iron ore pellets with a piece of copper on top.
