CHRISTMAS -- The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 237 in Christmas marked its 25th anniversary Saturday.

The chapter opened in 1987 with 42 charter members, 12 of which still remain. The chapter now has 78 members.

The veterans participate in many community events, veterans' funerals, and visit hospitals and nursing homes around Alger County.

More than 100 came Saturday to celebrate with food, games, and to see old friends.

"I think it's great that we still have so many active members that are here," said Phil Miller, Chapter 237 President. "Everybody seems to be doing so well. We lucked out and got some really great weather, so I'm tickled to death!"

The evening ended with a large bonfire.
